Moonlight Green!

I think I’ve found the perfect Moonlight Green formula. After quite a bit of experimenting, I’ve nailed down the ideal filter combination that brings out these ethereal green tones in the vegetation.

One thing I really like is the strong minty tones it produces, which create a striking contrast with the warmer colors and give each image a well-balanced look. Unlike similar filters that tend to wash out colors, this one preserves reds and yellows well, so skin tones still appear natural.

I’ve also noticed that when shooting roughly at a 90-degree angle to the sun, into a clear blue sky, the sky shifts to a darker blue with a slight violet tint, adding an interesting and unique touch to the photos.

Unfortunately, the specific filter I use (together with the internal Rich False Color IR filter) is a bit tricky to source right now, so I’m not able to include it in my camera sets on eBay just yet. But I wanted to share some pictures here.

I continue to marvel at the Nikon D70. Despite its modest 6-megapixel sensor by today’s standards, the image quality it delivers is impressive. And this camera handles the custom white balance effortlessly with almost any filter (combination)—a huge plus for IR shooting. I shot these images using a 40mm DX macro lens.

Before I show you some more pictures, a quick bit of housekeeping:

1. Rusty Purple is on hold – It’s not available yet. I’m still fine-tuning the colors and not happy with the result.
2. DIY filter combos now available – For those who want to handle the conversion themselves, I’ve started offering filter combinations. You can find them on eBay.
3. I quit Instagram. It is — like the whole Meta ecosystem — a time sink that leads nowhere.

Now, some more shots, SOOC…
