For IR images, the color channels must be swapped to obtain a blue sky. Depending on the model, the white balance must also be adjusted afterwards. This applies to the D40 and D3100 models, for example.
So always shoot in RAW or NEF (Nikon RAW format). This can be selected via the Image Quality menu item.
If you don’t have access to the image editing program Adobe Photoshop, you can easily do this with the free program GIMP. Unfortunately, the Nikon program does not have a Channel Mixer function either.
In GIMP do the following:
– In the raw editor (RawTherapee), find the “Color” section.
– Then click on the color selector tool in “White balance” and select a brightly lit grass areas in the photo.
– Then in the “RGB Channel Mixer” change the values for the red channel: Red = 0, Green = 0, Blue = 100. For the Green channel: Red = -50, Green = 100, Blue= 50. For the Blue channel: Red = 100, Green = 0, Blue = 0. Done.

Bei IR-Bildern müssen die Farbkanäle getauscht werden, um einen blauen Himmel zu erhalten. Je nach Modell muss auch der Weissabgleich im Nachhinein angepasst werden. Das trifft beispielsweise bei den Modellen D40 und D3100 zu.
Immer also in RAW oder NEF (Nikon-RAW-Format) fotografieren. Das kann über den Menüpunkt Bildqualität ausgewählt werden.
Wenn du nicht das Bildprogramm Adobe Photoshop hast, kannst du das problemlos mit dem Gratisprogramm GIMP tun. Mit dem Nikon-Programm geht das leider nicht.
In GIMP folgendes tun:
– Im Raw-Bearbeiter (RawTherapee) den Bereich “Farbe” suchen.
– Danach bei “Weissabgleich” den Farbwähler anklicken und helle Grasflächen im Foto anwählen.
– Anschliessend im “RGB-Kanalmixer” beim Rot-Kanal die Werte ändern: Rot = 0, Grün = 0, Blau = 100. Beim Grün-Kanal: Rot = -50, Grün = 100, Blau= 50. Beim Blau-Kanal: Rot = 100, Grün = 0, Blau = 0. Fertig.
